Giulia Calia

Libera UniversitĂ  di Bolzano

I come from Piedmont, Italy and I completed my Bachelor degree in Biology, working on some techniques for the eradication of viruses from the phloem of vitis vinifera plants ( Thesis tiltle "APPLICAZIONE DI TECNICHE DI RISANAMENTO DA VIRUS A Vitis vinifera". I completed my studies with a Master degree in Quantitative and Computational Biology in Trento and I did my internship at the Edmund Mach Foundation, where I developed a tool for the research of possible genetic rearrangements in vitis vinifera (Thesis title "BRAN: A NOVEL TOOL TO EXPLORE SUBCLONAL GENETIC VARIANTS"). Currently I'm doing my PhD in the programme of Food Engineering and Biotechnology at Free University of Bolzano, in collaboration with FEM and the Research Center of Laimburg; I'm focusing especially on the investigation of Candidatus Phytoplasma mali genomes and the detection of possible protein effectors for the Apple Proliferation disease occurence.

PhD project: Detection of genetic factors of pathogenicity and invasiveness in Candidatus Phytoplasma mali

FEM supervisor : Computational Biology Unit, Dr. Alessandro Cestaro.
